Evangelizing is often difficult for people - but it does not have to be - it is just like introducing one friend to another! I know, it is not quite that easy, but try some of the ideas below. These are the more simple ideas that everyone can do in everyday situations. On other pages in this website, we will present more complicated ways to evangelize (soon).
And if you have ANY ideas in additional to the items below, please email christlifesjwp@gmail.com
Simple things that can effect those around you and help you to bring God into your life and the lives of others:
Bring God into your life. Invite him to be at your work, at your play, at your meals, and with your family. He wants to be with us and enjoy our lives with us. Just because you cannot hear him with your ears does not mean he is not with us. We as people enjoy the company of others and there are times when just having someone with you, even when you cannot speak to them, is a comfort and enjoyable. Case in point, it is more fun to go to a movie with someone than alone even though we are not speaking to each other during the movie. So invite God into your daily life and all that you do. It will make a difference in your view of life.
Set a good example. Be kind and pleasant to everyone. And go to Mass at least weekly and enjoy it - it is not an obligation - it is visiting God who loves you and whom you love. When someone asks you to do something at a time when you go to Mass, explain to them that you go to Mass at that time can we do it at another time? Make the Mass important - you are visiting God and spending time with him.
Teach your children the faith. The easiest people to evangelize to would be your own children because they follow your lead and trust you. Set a good example for them in all things. Teach them to enjoy the Mass and enjoy Church and enjoy faith. Participate with them in their spiritual growth. And make trust in God and obedience to God the center of your family.
Pray to God to give you the words to say when you have an opportunity to mention Him to someone or to explain your faith to someone. It can be tough, but God will give you the words you need. It it does not need to be complicated. It can be as simple as your faith gives you peace and you can feel God working in your life.
Wear something that shows your faith, such as a cross necklace, a ring or a pin that represents your faith. Someone might notice it and ask you about your faith or it might remind them that they need to get back to faith themselves.
Hand out and share little spiritual reminder "tokens" as gifts such as https://a.co/d/5fxRhC6 or https://a.co/d/gQy5AsH.
Be ready to answer why you believe and why it matters in your life. Have this memorized or written down. Perhaps even a testimonial card that you can hand out to people. So prepare the answer to those two questions in advance.
Don't be afraid to say "God Bless You" to people. When someone is in need, such as a homeless person who is begging outside of a store, look at them - see them, smile and say "may God bless you" or "may Jesus bring you peace". You could even purchase a gift card to that store and give it to them so that they can buy something.
Pray in public such as at meals in restaurants or in a park on a beautiful sunny day when you just feel God's presence. This is a public display of your faith. Do not be afraid to show your faith.
Pray for people who you wish would become faithful - perhaps your friends or family members who do not yet know Christ or are "on the fence" about their belief. Pray that the holy spirit fills them with the desire to know God and to return to faith. Pray for as long as it takes. Sometimes it can take years. But your prays do make a difference.
Tell people that you will pray for them. When you greet someone, even a stranger, if they tell you that they are not having a good day because something has happened - perhaps someone in the family is sick - ask them some more details such the name of the person who is sick and tell them you will pray for them. And then do pray for them for a few days. For example: you greet a gas station attendant and say "good morning how are you?" and they replay "not so good, my mother is in the hospital". Then you should say "I am so sorry, what is her name so that I can pray for her?"
Act like a follower of Christ. Remember that we are representatives of our faith. If people see us acting inappropriately, they will have a negative view of our faith. But if they see us happy, pleasant, caring, and prayerful, then they will have a positive view of our faith.
Remain in the Faith and let your Faith guide you. People who are not of faith can also be good people. But a good person who has faith can do so much more and offer so much more to others.
