A STRONG BELIEF IN SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE PROVEN
Some people are blessed and have "blind faith" that is pure and unshakable. But for most people, faith needs to be built and nourished and protected. If you are experiencing issues with faith, please do not give up. Below are some ideas and suggestion to help build, strengthen, and keep your faith.
⛪Find a spiritual advisor. Some priests, deacons or nuns may be good spiritual advisors. Generally you would meet once a month and the advisor would assess where you are in your spiritual journey and were you want to be and they would make suggestions on tools to "get you there". It might be prayer or readings or keeping journals.
⛪Do not be afraid to question your faith, but don't let the questions throw you. Seek answers. First off - pray about it. Second, talk to someone who can help. It may be a family member or a friend or a religious person such as a priest, deacon or nun. Questioning can lead to a stronger faith once you seek and find the answers. God encourages us to question and challenges us. Through that process our faith can be strengthened and it gives us a better ability to help others who may also be questioning their faith.
⛪Faith is not always strong or constant. It can ebb and flow. That is OK. Mother Teresa herself said that she went through a very long "dry period" were she felt a profound absence of God's presence despite continuing her dedicated work with the poor. Eventually she did get her full faith back but it too a very long time. She kept this a secret during her life and it was only revealed after she died. She is one of the greatest women of faith. If she had dry periods in her life, we will also probably have them. Do not fret. Continue to go to Mass and pray. Do not give up. Your faith will return as did hers.
⛪I found that listening to Relevant Radio helped me while I was discovering my faith and it continues to strengthen my faith. Try it out while you drive in your car. It is on AM radio. Check out their website https://relevantradio.com/. I particularly enjoy the Patrick Madrid Show and Father Simon Says and Glen's Story Corner. But they have so many more programs.
⛪Listen to spiritual music. I found that starting my day off listening to spiritual music while I check my emails and have my morning coffee starts me out on a good foot. I really enjoy Ellie Holcomb and Carrie Underwood.
⛪Become active at your church. Join in on church activities. Make like-minded friends. I worked on the ChristLife program at my church and made many friends through that. I also attended a Wild Goose series at the Church and participated in a food pantry. And I make an effort to attend church concerts, special programs, and other outreach things my church does. Become active in your church and make friends.
